Piping Designer

Position Description:
The Designer creates and establishes simple designs consistent with good practices, client requirements and conformance to Codes & Standards. Designers apply standard drafting techniques to generate and interpret drawings in support of assigned projects and provide guidance and leadership to drafters to ensure that all established Company and client design standards and practices are followed.

Essential Functions: 
  • Generates design and detail drawings including orthographics, plans/sections, and isometrics to support Discipline Leads.
  • Serves as Project Lead and/or Discipline Lead for select single- and select multi-discipline projects by estimating work hours, developing scope of work, making staffing recommendations, checking drawings, completing quality processes, providing monthly Discipline updates, and attending project meetings.
  • Interacts with Clients to convey project design and identify scope changes.
  • Interacts with other departments and suppliers to obtain pertinent information.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Proficient in standard drafting techniques
  • Proficient in basic computer functions required to perform CADWorx, 2-D AutoCAD, 3-D AutoCAD, AutoPlant design
  • Associate Degree in a technical discipline or equivalent
  • Proficient in field investigations and measurements
  • 15+ years design and drafting experience in refining and/or chemical process piping design
  • Working knowledge of Codes and Standards
  • Working knowledge of reference documents and guides
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products

  • In some cases, the site working environment may include outside conditions and exposure to high temperatures.
  • May require extended overnight travel to another client location/facility or the home office.
  • Conditions will vary at each location, but the conditions listed above will generally apply.
  • When working outside Middough’s office, appropriate safety training and safety equipment will be provided by Middough and/or Client, as required.
