Mechanical Engineer – Vessel Design
 

Position Description:
The successful engineer will be adept at organizing and scheduling work tasks across multiple projects. The engineer posses a track record of problem solving and understands the dynamic between the design details and the “big picture” project objectives.  The engineer will develop technical design, calculations, 3D models, and construction drawings of ASME Pressure Vessels and Heat Exchangers for review & approval by senior vessel engineers while working as part of a multi-discipline design team. 
 

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for material selection and component design of ASME pressure vessels and heat exchangers
  • Develops calculations and corresponding detail drawings for vessels, tanks, and exchangers suitable for fabrication
  • Develops technical specifications & data sheets, performs technical evaluation of bids, and recommends best value design which meets client requirements for operability, reliability, maintainability and safety
  • Collects and prepares data/information, performs detailed engineering calculations, and writes formal engineering/technical reports
  • Assists in making field observations to document equipment installations, existing field conditions, and participate in problem solving activities
  • Interacts with other engineering departments and equipment suppliers to exchange pertinent project information
  • Keeps department and project managers up to date on task progression
 
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience developing pressure vessel and heat exchanger design calculations using code calculation software (Compress or PV Elite) as part of design new units and re-rating of existing units
  • Experienced re-rating and design modifications for units built prior to 1968 and earlier versions of the vessel code
  • Adept at using 3D FEA packages (SolidWorks Sim Pro Preferred) to supplement ASME calculations
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office products (Excel, Access, Word)
  • Capable of obtaining PE registration

In addition:
  • Overtime may be necessary as workload’s dictate. This may include weekdays, weekends and/or holidays.
  • The job will generally be performed at the Client’s production facility or industrial/construction job site and could last for extended periods of time.
  • May require occasional overnight travel to another client location/facility or the home office.
  • Conditions will vary at each location, but the conditions listed above will generally apply.
  • When working outside Middough’s office, appropriate safety training and safety equipment will be provided by Middough and/or Client, as required.
