Lead Electrical & Instrumentation Designer

Position Description:

The Lead E&I Designer responsible for directing a discipline design team throughout the entire project cycle from initial concept through successful completion.  DL’s manage the organization, control, integration and completion of their discipline’s part of a project or the design portion of a design/construct project to ensure that the goals and objectives are accomplished in accordance with the scope, budget, schedule and quality conditions as established by the terms of the contract and the client’s requirements.  The DL possesses sufficient technical knowledge and awareness of design details to recognize technical problems in assigned disciplines and to initiate appropriate corrective actions.
Essential Functions:
  • Responsible for planning, scheduling, conducting and coordinating the technical and management interface on assigned projects.
  • Manages necessary resources for execution
  • Generates design and detail drawings including plans/sections and isometrics
  • Interprets area classification drawings and develop area classification details
  • Performs MCC load studies, arc flash analysis, and sizing MCC motor starter buckets
  • Able to select transmitters and flow elements per client standards and process conditions
  • Interacts with Clients to convey project design and identify scope changes
  • Interacts with other departments and suppliers to obtain pertinent information
  • Reviews project/discipline deliverables for compliance with industry accepted design principles, company standards and customer contract specifications.
  • Identify changes in scope that will effect project schedule or Middough/client budgets, Skills and Qualifications:
  • 15+ years design experience
  • Associate Degree in a technical discipline preferred
  • AutoCAD Certificate or minimum of 5 years proven AutoCAD experience
  • Proficient in basic computer functions required to perform AutoCAD 2-D, AutoCAD 3-D, Raster, and MicroStation
  • Proficient in standard drafting techniques and in field investigations and measurements
  • Working knowledge of SmartPlant Instrumentation (INtools) and Foundation Fieldbus
  • Knowledge of Codes and Standards
  • Previous experience with Honeywell DCS Systems, Allen Bradley PLCs, and DeltaV DCS Systems
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
  • TWIC card a plus

  • The job may be performed at the Client’s production facility or industrial/construction job site and could last for extended periods of time
  • In some cases, the site working environment may include outside conditions and exposure to high temperatures
  • May require extended overnight travel to another client location/facility or the home office
  • Conditions will vary at each location, but the conditions listed above will generally apply
  • When working outside Middough’s office, appropriate safety training and safety equipment will be provided by Middough and/or Client, as required
