Job Description

Instrumentation & Electrical Designer

Position Description:

The I&E Designer creates and establishes complex designs consistent with good practices, client requirements, and conformance to Codes and Standards. I&E Designers apply standard drafting techniques to generate and interpret drawings in support of assigned projects and provide guidance and leadership to drafters and designers to ensure that all established Company design standards and practices are followed.

Essential Functions:
  • Generates design and detail drawings including plans/sections and isometrics to support Discipline Leads
  • Serves as Project Lead and/or Discipline Lead for select single and select multi-discipline projects by estimating work hours, developing scope of work, making staffing recommendations, checking drawings, completing quality processes, providing monthly Discipline updates, and attending project meetings
  • Interprets area classification drawings and develop area classification details
  • Performs MCC load studies, arc flash analysis, and sizing MCC motor starter buckets
  • Able to size and select transmitters, control valves, and flow elements per client standards and process conditions
  • Interacts with Clients to convey project design and identify scope changes
  • Interacts with other departments and suppliers to obtain pertinent information
Skills and Qualifications:
 
  • Associate Degree in a technical discipline with 5 years design experience
  • AutoCAD Certificate or minimum of 5 years proven AutoCAD experience
  • Proficient in basic computer functions required to perform AutoCAD 2-D, AutoCAD 3-D, Raster, and MicroStation
  • Proficient in standard drafting techniques and in field investigations and measurements
  • Working knowledge of SmartPlant Instrumentation (INtools) and Foundation Fieldbus
  • Knowledge of Codes and Standards
  • Previous experience with Honeywell DCS Systems, Allen Bradley PLCs, and DeltaV DCS Systems
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
  • TWIC card a plus

In addition:
  • Overtime may be necessary as workload’s dictate. This may include weekdays, weekends and/or holidays
  • This job will be performed at the Client’s production facility or industrial/construction job site
  • In some cases, the site working environment may include outside conditions and exposure to high temperatures
  • May require extended overnight travel to another client location/facility or the home office
  • When working outside Middough’s office, appropriate safety training and safety equipment will be provided by Middough and/or Client, as required
