Job Description

Sr. Instrumentation & Controls Designer
 
Position Description:
The Sr. Designer creates and establishes complex designs consistent with good practices, client requirements and conformance to Codes & Standards.  Sr. Designers apply standard drafting techniques to generate and interpret drawings in support of assigned projects and provide guidance and leadership to drafters and designers to ensure that all established Company and client design standards and practices are followed.
 
Essential Functions:
  • Experienced in the design and development of instrument installation packages, installation details, location plans, control wiring and loop diagrams, instrument cable schedule, electrical raceway schedules and tubing supports.
  • Familiar with piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and capable of providing input to P&IDs with regard to instrumentation tagging and connections.
  • Other familiarity with physical fiber optic network design, I/O requirements for DCS and PLC systems, and proficiency in the review of vendor drawing submittals.
  • Generates design and detail drawings including orthographics, plans/sections, and isometrics to support Discipline Leads.
  • Manages and maintains the Project Documentation.
  • Serves as Discipline Lead for select single-discipline projects by estimating work hours, developing scope of work, making staffing recommendations, and maintaining quality processes.
  • Interacts with other departments and suppliers to obtain pertinent information.  
Skills and Qualifications:
  • 10+ years design experience
  • Associate Degree in a technical discipline or equivalent
  • Proficient in computer software AutoCAD 2D, Plant3D, and MicroStation is required; knowledge of BIM / Revit is a plus.
  • Field experience in support of construction and startup / commissioning is preferred.
  • Proficient in standard drafting techniques.
  • Working knowledge of Codes and Standards
  • Working knowledge of ISA reference documents and guides
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products

  • In some cases, the site working environment may include outside conditions and exposure to high temperatures.
  • May require extended overnight travel to another client location/facility or the home office.
  • Conditions will vary at each location, but the conditions listed above will generally apply.
  • When working outside Middough’s office, appropriate safety training and safety equipment will be provided by Middough and/or Client, as required.
