Instrumentation & Controls Project Engineer - Onsite - Lake Geneva, WI

The Project Engineer (PE) is responsible for directing a large single discipline or small/medium multi-discipline engineering design team throughout the entire project cycle from initial concept through successful completion. The PE manages the organization, control, integration and completion of a design only project or the design portion of a design/construct project to ensure that the goals and objectives are accomplished in accordance with the scope, budget and schedule conditions as established by the terms of the contract.  The PE possesses sufficient technical knowledge and awareness of design details to recognize technical problems in assigned disciplines and to initiate appropriate corrective actions.

Essential Functions:
  • Execute project schedule in logical steps and assist in critical path management of electrical components with project manager.
  • Prepare and submit progress reports weekly.
  • Develop and implement quality control programs for electrical installations, monitor and assist with installations as needed.
  • Interpret and explain plans and contract terms to administrative staff, contract workers and plant staff.
  • Study job specifications to determine appropriate methods.
  • Ensure labor requirements for tasks are met and work with trades to amend them as needed.
  • Manage change, issue and risk report as well as risk mitigation.
  • Assist project manager with planning, organizing, and directing activities concerned with electrical installation and maintenance.
  • Ensure all work completed conforms to electrical code.
  • Assist in providing pricing estimates and Change Orders for adjustments to resolve issues during the job's execution.
  • Procure equipment and materials as needed, assist with freight schedule to job site.
  • Ensure project timing and cost targets are met, escalate to project manager as needed.
  • Assist electrical contractor with inspections and loop check-outs.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • 10+ years engineering experience
  • Food industry experience highly desireable
  • Experience with specifying field instrumentation and process analyzers
  • Experience with specifying DCS/PLC hardware and wiring design
  • Working knowledge of P&ID's, PFD's, loop diagrams, installation details, and NEC/ISA standards
  • Experience with and general knowledge of contract and liability issues
  • Accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Construction Management
  • PE license preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products

In addition:
  • Overtime may be necessary as workloads dictate.  This may include weekdays, weekends and/or holidays.
  • The job will generally be performed at the Client's production facility or industrial/construction job site and could last for an extended period of time.
  • May require occasional overnight travel to another client location/facility or the home office.
  • Conditions will vary at each location, but the conditions listed above will generally apply.
  • When working outside of Middough's office, appropriate safety training and safety equipment will be provided by Middough and/or Client, as required.
