Job Description

Instrumentation & Controls Designer

The Designer creates and establishes designs consistent with good practices, client requirements and conformance to Codes & Standards. Designers apply standard drafting techniques to generate and interpret drawings in support of assigned projects and provide guidance and leadership to drafters to ensure that all established Company and client design standards and practices are followed.

Essential Functions:
  • Generates design and detail drawings including orthographics, plans/sections, and details to support Discipline Leads.
  • Manages and maintains the Project Documentation (e.g., flat files, reference/stick files, CAD drawings).
  • Serves as Discipline Lead for select single-discipline projects by estimating work hours, developing scope of work, making staffing recommendations, and maintaining quality processes.
  • Interacts with other departments and suppliers to obtain pertinent information.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Proficient in computer functions required to perform  2-D CAD, Smart P&ID’s
  • Associate Degree in a technical discipline or equivalent
  • 3+ years design experience preferably in a refinery, or a continuous process chemical plant
  • P&ID understanding.
  • Proficient in all standard drafting techniques in AutoCad and MicroStation.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and 3-D CAD.
  • Familiarity with typical I&C drawings (Loops, Cabinet Layout/Wiring, P&ID’s, installation details,  etc.)
  • Working knowledge of process field instrumentation

  • Conditions will vary at each location, but the conditions listed above will generally apply.
  • When working outside Middough’s office, appropriate safety training and safety equipment will be provided by Middough and/or Client, as required.
