Job Description

ESTIMATOR
 
Position Description: 
The Estimator provides cost planning and cost estimating on assigned projects, is gaining experience in EPC projects, and has some experience in estimating Total Installed Cost in a multitude of project phases and estimate types. The Estimator may work on an individual basis or sometimes report to a Senior Estimator and / or Discipline Manager on large assignments. Services include preparing cost estimates, contingency analysis and database input and development.
 
Essential Functions:
  • Develops cost estimates of all levels and prepares accompanying Basis of Estimate with every estimate.
  • Plans and provides cost estimating support of a project or business unit. 
  • Proactively develops, plans, calculates, and conveys scope, schedule, and cost data for projects.
  • Uses Middough Advance Project Procedures (MAPP) as a tool for project implementation and complies with procedural requirements.
  • Develops the scope, schedule, budget and estimates to complete data for assigned tasks.
  • Leads in the creation of Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and development of schedules and budget data (including resource loading) for those WBS elements.
  • Analyzes unit rates to be sure they are well understood and defendable to peer review.
  • Maintains data of current labor, material, and equipment rates, cost escalation trends, and labor availability information.
  • Assembles cost data and inputs for dissemination into the project control database and/ or the project or leadership before, during, and after the project is complete.
  • Schedules estimate preparation and identifies developing problem areas.
  • Periodically participates in claim support information development and claims analysis.
  • Prepares reports and financial information for the Project Accountant, Controller, and / or Project Manager or Senior Project Manager when requested.
  • Advises management of risks that may affect project profit, costs, schedules and client relations.
  • Supports the Project Management team in maintaining timely and effective change management processes.
     
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or Business
  • Hands-on experience with US Golf Cost, Aspen Economic Evaluator (KBase/Icarus), Richardsons, R.S. Means Costworks and / or similar estimating software
  • 5+ years’ experience in estimating TIC on multiple project types
  • Estimating experience on engineering, EPC, and construction-only projects
  • Demonstrates knowledge of cost estimating, budgeting, change orders and forecasting
  • Experience with Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Project Software

  • The job will generally be performed in a Middough office location but could occur at the Client’s production facility or industrial/construction job site.
  •  May require occasional overnight travel to another client location/facility or the home office.
  • Conditions will vary at each location, but the conditions listed above will generally apply.
  • When working outside Middough’s office, appropriate safety training and safety equipment will be provided by Middough and/or Client, as required.
