Job Description

Electrical Substation Engineer

The Design Engineer is responsible the overall design and engineering of substations as assigned from schematic phase through final construction drawings.
Specific experience performing aspects associated with substation design including One Line Diagrams, General Arrangements, Sections, Grounding, Conduit Plans, Foundation Plans, Material Lists, Relay Protection and Control Systems, Schematics and Wiring Diagrams, SCADA Systems and Communication Systems is required.

Essential Functions:
  • Confers with client personnel, utility personnel, manufacturers’ representatives and others as required when carrying out above work.
  • Prepares technical specifications and calculations
  • Reviews and evaluates drawings.
  • Performs site visits to verify drawings and to view existing conditions, as required by clients.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications:
  • Requires a BSEE from an ABET accredited program
  • 3+ years’ experience as an Electrical Engineer in the power industry
  • PE registration is preferred, or the ability to become registered is a requirement
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm desired.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the function and application of major substation electrical and control house equipment
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Travel may be required

In addition:
  • Overtime may be necessary as workloads dictate.  This may include weekdays, weekends and/or holidays.
  • May require occasional overnight travel to another client location/facility or the home office. 
  • Conditions will vary at each location, but the conditions listed above will generally apply.
  • When working outside Middough's office, appropriate safety training and safety equipment will be provided by Middough and/or Client, as required.
