Job Description

Construction Manager - Onsite - Baytown,TX

This is an onsite position in Baytown, TX that will last about 18 - 24 months based upon client requirements.

The Construction Manager (CM) oversees construction projects in accordance with design, budget, scope, schedule, quality and safety parameters. The CM interfaces with client, A/E, union, contractors, security, and safety representatives. The CM plans, coordinates and/or supervises field activities of all company personnel on assigned project(s). The CM implements company strategy and policy, manages daily operations, develops/builds/trains required technology and related tools and capabilities within staff. The CM supports proposal efforts and business development activities required to obtain construction management, design/build and EPCM contracts. \

Essential Functions:

  • Sets the priority of Safety as paramount in all planning and execution.
  • Uses Middough Advanced Project Procedures (MAPP) as a tool for project implementation and complies with procedural requirements.
  • Develops and manages the project construction schedule.
  • Coordinates and supervises on-site functions (construction trades, engineering support, material control, construction inspections and day-to-day direction of on-site administrative staff).
  • Coordinates day-to-day construction site activities.
  • Supervises the work of contractors onsite and endeavors to ensures that all construction is in compliance with design specifications, is completed on schedule, adheres to budget and is built to quality standards.
  • Endeavors to ensure all safety requirements for Middough, client organization, and local/State/Federal authorities are met.
  • Communicates regularly with client, Middough staff, and other consulting organizations to provide status updates.
  • Prepares daily construction reports and submits to office regularly.
  • Supervises employees and/or contractors as required by the contract.
  • Recommends and/or reviews project personnel transactions, purchase requisitions, field design change requests, etc., under supervision of the Senior Construction Manager and or/ PM.
  • Provides technical assistance i.e., interpretation of drawings, recommending construction methods and equipment, etc., as required.
  • Assists project management in developing and implementing project procedures, working documents, standards, etc.; ensures all on-site personnel comply with project procedures, safety program requirements, work rules, etc.
  • Documents violations, notifies project management, recommends / implements corrective actions as required.
  • Pushes for productivity of crafts and / or contractors efficient use of materials and equipment, and contractual performance of the project.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 10+ years experience in site construction management
  • Construction Management experience in steel manufacturing is a plus
  • Working knowledge of construction means, methods, and standards
  • Significant project management experience
  • OSHA 30 hour Safety Certification
  • Experience with and general knowledge of contract and liability issues
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products

In addition:

  • Overtime may be necessary as workloads dictate. This may include weekdays, weekends and/or holidays.
  • The job will generally be performed at the Client’s production facility or industrial/construction job site and could last for an extended period of time.
  • May require occasional overnight travel to another client location/facility or the home office.
  • Conditions will vary at each location, but the conditions listed above will generally apply.
  • When working outside Middough’s office, appropriate safety training and safety equipment will be provided by Middough and/or Client, as required
