Job Description

Chemical Project Manager – On site position
 

Functional Role Description:
 
As a Project Manager (PM), you will be responsible for the management, design, construction and successful start-up of domestic and international capital projects (typically $1-30 MM USD).  This includes the upgrade and expansion of existing facilities as well as the construction of new facilities.  You will prepare project scopes, schedules, and cost estimates along with basic engineering and detailed design packages for capital projects.  You will also coordinate and lead internal and external teams and contract engineering firms. 
 
The PM possesses broad knowledge, understanding and experience with the basic engineering and construction models including A/E, AEPCM, Design Build and/or CM. PM’s provide leadership and organization to the project and instill confidence in the client regarding the project team’s abilities. The PM demonstrates excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and maintains specific knowledge of planning and scheduling functions and a thorough understanding of contract administration, liability and safety issues.
 
Essential Functions:
  • Coordinates completion of defined work scope for a project between disciplines/locations involved.
  • Proven ability to successfully construct and start-up capital equipment and systems
  • Assists in preparation of project specifications and reviews progress as drawings are developed and prior to issue for permit and construction.
  • Monitors changes in scope/schedule and prepares Change Authorizations as required.
  • Develops, reviews and approves all project management documents via the DTSR including: scope development, project costs and schedules, and internal/external communications.
  • Supervises the preparation of proposals, project specification/scopes and assists in negotiating final contracts.
  • Monitors project costs and quality to ensure the profitability and technical performance of the project and develops innovative actions to correct variances to scope, budget and/or schedule.
  • Exercises cost efficient and innovative approaches in the design to save construction costs and improve productivity.
  • Anticipates, recognizes and identifies key project issues/problems and establishes objectives and priorities in solving them and determines solutions and directs their implementation.
  • Leadership skills, including a demonstrated aptitude to work in teams and motivate others
 
Skills and Qualifications: 
  • 10 plus years’ experience in managing capital projects in the chemical or heavy manufacturing industries - facility experience desired
  • Accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering discipline
  • PMP Certification is a plus!
  • Project scheduling (MS Project, etc.) and cost forecasting skills.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Demonstrated hands-on field experience in chemical manufacturing facilities with process and equipment commissioning, safety reviews, performance testing, and troubleshooting.  A working understanding of Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) is required along with a basic understanding of ASME, ANSI, NFPA, and other industry standards for design and construction.
  • Experience with and general knowledge of safety and contract/liability issues
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products

  • Overtime may be necessary as work load’s dictate. This may include weekdays, weekends and/or holidays.
  • The job will generally be performed at Middough’s office, but may require occasional overnight travel to the Client’s office, production facility or industrial/construction job site.
  • The employee may be assigned to work at a Client’s office, facility or site for an extended period of time. Conditions will vary at each location, but the conditions listed above will generally apply.
  • Must be willing and able to travel domestically and possibly internationally.  Travel requirements estimated to be approximately 25-40% and will be primarily domestic.
  • When performing outside Middough’s office, appropriate safety training and safety equipment will be provided by Middough and/or Client, as required.
